Replace Laser Crew Strap Adjustment Line

If you use it for more than 100 days while sailing, the clew strap tie line will be a bit thin as shown in the image. It uses Dyneema, but some strands are likely broken. However, other parts have almost no deterioration, so I will replace only this tie line.

Measure the knot position on the old tie line to set the same knot on the new tie line.

Cut the old tie loop piece. Since it is made of Dyneema, it may not be easy to cut with ordinary scissors.

Pass the new tie line through the end of the strap. It has a small loop at one end and rubber protection at the other end. Pull the end of the rubber through the loop.

Make a knot so that the tie ends do not fall out of the loop.

Mark the knot positions measured in advance on the tie line. It is good inside the knot. Then place the eight knot where you can see the mark.

The 8 knots position should be readjusted when actually set on the boom. Once sailing, the knot moves when the tie line is under tension. If the clew is away from the boom, adjust the knot position again.

This completes the replacement of the tie line.
Estimated replacement period is after sailing for more than 100 days or 300 hours. Click here for details of parts.
